Video nasty essay
Installation art is a relatively new genre of contemporary art - practised by an increasing number of postmodernist artists - which involves the configuration or "installation" of objects in a space.
Bill Viola
is internationally recognized as one of today’s leading artists. He has been instrumental in the establishment of video as a vital form of contemporary art, and in so doing has helped to greatly expand its scope in terms of technology, content, and historical reach. For 40 years he has created videotapes, architectural video installations.
Martyrs
The Martyrs video is being shown at St Paul Cathedral the video represent earth fire water and wind. Marrtys is the first moving art being held in a London cathedral, Martys is made up of four vertical plasma moving screens. Martyrs come from the greek word martyra which means “witness”, Bill Viola has describe the Martyrs as “exemplify the human capacity to bear pain, hardship and even death in order to remain faithful to their values, beliefs and principles”. The experience of seeing four individuals suffering orchestrated together.
Christian Marclay
Christian Marclay transforms sounds and music into visible, physical form through a prolific range of performances, collages, sculptures, installations, photographs, and videos. “I’ve always been interested in how sound is visualized,” he explains. Marclay began exploring sound in 1979, in performances in which he would manipulate turntables, playing them as if they were traditional instruments.
The Clock
The clock is art piece constant of multiple movies the art piece is 24 hours,The art piece resides at the white cube gallery in Central London the movies in the art piece are from the last 100 years, in each movie one of the characters look at their watch or the clock. What makes this art piece great is when the characters are looking at their clock it is co responsive to the current time in the real world. It took Christian Marclay 2 years to makes this art piece finding in each film the exact time and being able to synchronised to the real world. Christian has stated that the art piece is has a hint of life and death and how being time obsessed can affect your enjoyment in life. For 9am to people is the starts of a working day and being punctual is virtual due to president ….. Saying time is money.
Tony Oursler
A pioneer of new-media art since the mid-1970s, Tony Oursler is best known for his video projections and installation works that explore technology's effects on the human mind. Honing in on much of humanity's compulsive relationship with computers and virtual networks.
The art piece I choose for Tony Oursler is Captiture 2002 in this art piece it shows boy parts in different places. At first glance of the art/ I was confused and didn't understand the art behind the piece. Talking into researching Tony Oursler art piece seeing how he uses the three senses and molds into one face for a physiological effect on people. Tony Oursler never shoots the nose according to him in media there no smell which happens to be true because you never judge art with your nose.
Conclusion
In conclusion after doing reasherach on three different artist in the video installation world I have gathered a nice understanding of art installation and the meaning behind the art. The artist I happen to prefer is Christian Malcay seeing the effort Christian Malcay used on synchronising the real world time with the movie time and meaning behind the art piece is something I believed in personally myself.
