Animation Evolution

For this term we had to create an animation using clay and stop motion.  At the start of the unit Sue introduced the class to the history of animation. Studying the history of animation I was fascinated on how animation has changed over the years. Winsor Mc Cray was the first well know animator with the film Gertie the Dinosaur, Mc Cray traveled the world having to redraw the animation at every perfomance  .

I did the presentation with Louie a person I haven’t really worked with in the past. I found it interesting working with Louie because we were both passionate about studying animation. When the whole class was presenting I was really interested in learning about different animators. There are many different animation styles for example Oliver Postgate was a puppeteer who was different then the stereotypical animation style.

In the next lesson we had to create characters using clay. This great fun it gave me the freedom to create any character I wanted. Creating characters using clay I felt like Nick Park who created Wallace and Gromit Who inspired me to help create Rachel with Amari

When doing the final animation I missed the previous lesson due to the English exam. But I was able to help Amari with the idea of pacman, I felt it would be great to do a video game themed animation that could create a great story.  Missing out on the previous lesson really affected me but I was able to use youtube to help me with the story.  The story was a very traditional Pacman story with a beginning and end; we made it unique by changing the background to a summer background. Strengths of the animation were great soundtrack and we were able to get a excellent feedback from my peers. Weakness was I believed that the animation could have been longer then 30 seconds .
